Healthy Boundaries

Just when the caterpillar thought the world was over…

it became a butterfly!

Part of my recovery is about healthy boundaries or schedules.  For those who know me, stop laughing.  A schedule or routine is something I have never done, I’ve tried but it never last more than 48 hours.  Keeping a schedule or routine is vital in recovery, or at least that’s what my counselor says.

I’m not sure how to go about this whole routine thing, not sure where to start.  My counselor suggests starting with a bed time and eating (more than once a day).  Two things, that’s it, for starters. Two tiny things and I am baffled as to how I’m going to accomplish them.  Like the wise man (my counselor) says, “Just do it”.

I’m going to go back to something I started a year ago, I did it for like two days.  It’s called Fly Lady.  I’m starting today with day 1- Shine my sink.  Each day you add something to your daily routine, I’ll see how it goes.

Maybe I’ll get to the point where I do something other than chase my tail.

  1. The routine and bedtime thing is one of the most important things with your health. Remember that time you showed up on my doorstep at like 4am because I said you couldn’t do it? Well, I bet you can’t go five days in a row, getting up at the same time, establishing mealtimes and setting a routine bedtime. I don’t think you can do it. You’ll probably stop after 2 hours and say, “Screw You.” By Day Three you’ll probably only have a Pepsi and smoke for the day. (Is this reverse psychology making any kind of impact yet?)

No, seriously…you’re one of the most hard headed people I know, outside of myself. You can do this. And your counselor is right…start simple. Adopt my KISS motto:

Love ya. Proud of Ya. Mean it.

  2. I’ll take the bet of a bedtime and 3 meals and raise you 2 snacks and meditation in the morning…I hear the Rocky theme in the background, the whirlwind is a comin’!

Thanks for your support, it means a lot to me!

btw-I do remember that day. Your Mom answered the front door with this worried look on her face, asking me if everything was okay. I stumbled past her still in my pajamas, hair a mess and mumbling, “says I can’t be here by 6am well I’m here”. I wonder if she still remembers that? Too Funny!
